Jamie and Claire Fraser arrived in North Carolina in 1767, eventually making their home in the rugged backcountry and building the community that would become Fraser’s Ridge. Though the Ridge itself is fictional, Diana Gabaldon placed it among the mountains of western North Carolina, where Scottish Highland immigrants really did settle during the 18th century.
